Documentation
There is something called documentation, which will guide you through the steps to set up your website. If you are already familiar with WordPress, then you can just set it up on your own. If you have already set up one website, the next website should go relatively fast. WordPress is basically drag and drop. It might look a little overwhelming and unfamiliar at first, but you will quickly get used to it.
Demo Theme
If you just purchased a custom theme, you may be wondering, “why does my theme not look like the demo?” Most design themes do not look like the demo, because they are not filled out all the way. If you want it to look exactly like the demo, you would just fill it out to look like it.
When I first purchased my theme, I had a previous theme installed on my WordPress software and there were widgets interfering with the new one. Also, I did not realize that the demo version looked different than the theme I got. Meaning, the demo was filled out and the version that I purchased was to be filled out. So, I emailed the creator of the theme, and quickly received some pointers on how to fill it out, then just read the documentation for the rest! Also, WordPress software looked completely unfamiliar, even though I had previous HTML, CSS, and Javascript experience. I even considered paying for installation because I thought it was taking me too long to figure it out. But, I did figure it out, and now WordPress is very familiar and easy to use ๐
Tips
- It is easiest to upload your design onto a clean WordPress, without any prior sample theme installed, which may have widgets installed that interfere with the design.
- Check for documentation before you buy a theme, so that you know it will include some instructions.
- Also, check to see if customer support is available, because if you have a question you can ask the creator of the theme.
- Many themes also come with an option to pay for installation. Just keep in mind that after you set up one WordPress website, you will be able to do the next one faster.
- It is worth it to learn how to use WordPress software, because then you will be able to make fast adjustments to your blog in the future. If you have never installed a WordPress website it may take you anywhere from 1 – 3 days, depending on how many hours you work on it!
