No, you do not need to coding experience or tech skills to start a WordPress blog. Before I started blogging I had some HTML, CSS, and Javascript experience. But, you don’t need to know how to code at all. WordPress is absolutely for beginners!
Drag and Drop
WordPress is a platform that is basically drag and drop. It did look quite unfamiliar at the time, but you get the hang of it fairly quick. I remember it took 3 / 4 days (working on it a few hours a day) to get my blog set up, and I almost wanted to give up and pay someone to install the theme for me, because thought it was taking too long. Part of it was because I didn’t understand that the theme was not supposed to look exactly like the demo. You can fill it out to look like the demo, but the demo looks that way because it is already filled out, and most theme developers send you the theme without it being filled out like the demo.
Documentation
After I understood my theme was not supposed to look like the demo, and I began following the documentation steps to fill out the blog, it went relatively quickly. After I followed one step and saw how to fill out a portion of the theme, I quickly realized the whole process was much like that, drag and drop.
HTML
The only code that I really use is HTML anchor tags to create links such as: <a href=””></a>. That’s it. Also, plugins were designed so that you can use a plugin instead of code something, so there is usually a manual way to do something as well as a plugin version.
Conclusion
So there you have it, you absolutely do not need coding experience to start a blog. After you set up one blog, that is enough to find your way around WordPress, and feel like you can navigate it. Then, the next blog you set up will go a lot faster, such as hours instead of days. WordPress is for beginners, also there are many WordPress tutorials out there, as well as usually documentation from the theme developer telling you step by step how to set up the blog. And, depending on the theme developer, they will usually have customer service where you can email if you have questions. Good luck!
