Do you want to boost blog engagement? Do you want people to stay on your blog longer? Do you want to hear your audience’s opinions? Here are several ways to get more comments on your blog posts!
1. Ask Questions / Just Ask
Ask your readers to share their opinions or experiences by ending posts with open-ended questions.
For example, you could ask “How do you stay organized?” or “How do you plan and schedule all of your to-do’s for the week?” Or “Which planner have you used that has been your absolute favorite? And why?”
You could also just tell them to “comment below” or “share your experiences.” If you are talking about a trip you took, ask who else has been there, or who wants to go there. If you are blogging about a recipe, ask for people to comment if they have tried it and how it turned out.
2. Create Controversial or Thought-Provoking Content
Topics that spark debate often elicit the most comments. People even go back and forth in the comments. Many algorithms pay attention to this, and comments can help boost your views.
Just take TikTok for example, this video is not only controversial because the reader is insulting his short audience, but it received a lot of comments from viewers, which TikTok notices and then pushes the video even more.
3. Engage with Your Audience
Respond to comments to create a sense of community and encourage further interaction.
People like to feel seen and heard. If they see that the owner of the blog is responding to comments, they are likely to feel that if they leave a comment, it will be received well and their thoughts validated.
4. Promote on Social Media
Share your posts on platforms where your audience engages, and invite them to comment.
5. Use a Comment Plugin
Consider plugins that enhance the commenting experience, like threaded comments or social media logins.
6. Host Contests or Giveaways
Encourage comments by offering a chance to win a prize for participating. People love free things! Make sure to announce the winner too!
7. Feature Readers’ Comments
Highlight insightful comments in your posts to encourage more people to share their thoughts. You could screenshot readers’ comments and include them in your blog posts. This can be a good source of social proof.
8. Create a Comment Policy
Make it clear that you welcome comments, and outline how to engage respectfully.
9. Encourage Guest Comments
Invite guest bloggers to contribute and encourage their followers to comment.
10. Write Compelling Headlines
Catchy headlines can draw in readers in who are more likely to comment. For example, I clicked on this video, because I was wondering what he wanted in every room, not because I wanted to look at a bird feeder.
11. Share Personal Stories
Relatable content often prompts readers to share their own experiences. People love to learn about other people (watch other people’s lives, read about them, etc.). That is why reality T.V., YouTube, and TikTok do so well. It is a more real and raw look into someone’s life (although it is just clip). Personal brands are usually do way better on social media than a regular brand, because they are far more interesting and relatable.
Just think, people go on TikTok or YouTube to see everyday people talk about a place they have been to and want to go to, or use a home product that they want such as a vacuum. People like someone’s raw and unfiltered personal experience with something (either a place, product, service, etc.). They want to know what you thought about it, and they want to see a live tutorial, they don’t always want to go to a brand’s website for a tutorial.
If you don’t know what else to blog about, just write about your own experiences. Everyone has a unique experience and perspective that is true to them!
12. Use Visuals
Engaging images or videos can attract attention and prompt comments. A picture really is worth a thousand words! A picture can illustrate so much more sometimes. It can instantly grab attention.
I always look at pictures in blog posts, but I usually skim at least some part of the blog article.
13. Follow Up on Previous Posts
Reference older posts in new content, encouraging those who commented previously to re-engage.
14. Promote Email Subscriptions
Encourage readers to subscribe and invite them to reply with their thoughts.
15. Create a Sense of Urgency
Encourage comments by mentioning a limited-time offer or event related to the post.
Over to you, do you want more comments? What do you to to get more comments on your blog posts?
